It was date night when we showed up for the first time at Jong Ga House (or more like "date afternoon" since I made the reservation for 2:00 PM). It doesn't seem like much from the outside and that's ok since we are very into "mom and pop" places. As we walked in and waited to be seated, a friendly server greeted us and walked us right in. Immediately brought in the menu with water. I guess we looked like we've been there before because the server asked if we were ready to order just as she returned with the nine servings of "banchan" (side dishes in Korean). It was perfect for us since we were already hungry and it was easy to choose from the items on the menu. We started off with the ribeye, spicy chicken and boneless barbecue ribs. Ufff! The chicken and ribs were delicious! The ribeye... could have been better. It was not as tender as I expected or as tender as the chicken and ribs. The portions are considerable and my wife and I were getting full. We ordered two more items, the pork belly (flavorful) and the shrimp (tender and just the right amount of salt (of course it was... we seasoned it.) I don't know if it was the owner but she came towards the end and was surprised that we didn't want to order more. lol. What can I say, we're not heavy eaters. Though, we can appreciate great food at a reasonable price and fast friendly service. Would we come back?? Definitely! For another date night and with the kids too. PS. Reservations are highly recommended, especially if you want to be seated at the grill station.

Jong Ga House wasn't talked a lot amongst my friends, but I'm glad I found it! It's now become my go to place here. Their glazed potatoes are delicious. The service is either great or wavy throughout your service at the restaurant. One time, I think I got the manager / owner and she was great, however another time, I got some other people and it was really hard for them to the right order to us and to also flag them down to order more. I would also warn people that their portions are large--so order sparingly!

Jong Ga is our favorite go-to place for AYCE Korean. The meats, sea foods and vegetables are always fresh and good quality. The servers are super nice, attentive and happy to bring you whatever you asked for. We always leave satisfied and full. Best of all, they give discount if you are having a birthday(bring an ID), and they also give you complimentary ice cream and candle and play a taped Happy Birthday song.

4.75 stars - Consistently good food, fairly priced lunch specials, a wide assortment of banchan. Service can be a bit slow, but everyone is nice! Jong Ga House has been there for a while. I'm talking well over a decade, and I always find myself back here whenever I'm in the area. There are options for every mood--whether you're just popping in for a comforting bowl of soup or if you're ravenous and ready for a full carnivorous feast. There is something for everyone! They have both AYCE and a la carte. Both come with an assortment of banchan (side dishes), and they are always yummy. Beer and alcohol are also served. The lunch specials menu is also quite extensive, and items are well-priced for the quality and amount of food you get. The space is pretty large. It does get busy on weekend evenings, but it generally isn't too hard to get a table. You can also reserve a table ahead of time via Yelp! Parking is mainly street and metered. It could get tricky since people also to visit Lake Merrit and the other businesses nearby.
